Sports College Legacy
File 17
Plymstock School was one of the first Specialist Sports Colleges with aims to raise the standards of achievement and attainment throughout the school using sports as the tool. Our aim was to further enhance the opportunities on offer to our students thus engaging them in purposeful activity both in and out of lessons.
Sports Colleges ceased to exist when the Specialist Schools initiative was ended by the coalition government. Funding to maintain the Sports College stopped. We decided to maintain our involvement in sport despite this and still offer a wide variety of additional opportunities for our students.
We aim to develop and extend the range of accreditation opportunities for all our students from Years 7-13. By broadening the curriculum within PE, we hope to provide every child with the opportunity to experience an activity area in which they can achieve their potential.
In line with the Extended Schools agenda, Plymstock School will be signposting opportunities for students from 08.00 – 18.00 either on the school site or at nearby venues. These will be in addition to the extensive and wide ranging extra-curricular programme already in place.
