Bronze Celebration Event 4th Oct 2024
Forty students from Plymstock School celebrated achieving their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award last week. Widely acknowledged as the world’s leading achievement award for young people, DofE programmes enable young people to strengthen their key life-skills, such as confidence, commitment and team working. The DofE programme at Plymstock School has been running for many years and complements the school’s mission ‘to empower young people, through education, to have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life and make a positive contribution to society’.
Within the three activity sections, Physical, Skill and Volunteering, students took part in a huge range of activities, including working with charities, litter picking, coaching sports, helping younger students and siblings with schoolwork, volunteering in a soup kitchen, climbing, dance, football, running, cycling, boxing, photography, cooking and learning an instrument, to name a few!
The Bronze DofE award presentation was held on Friday 4th October, and those students that were present represented a diverse cross section of this great group of young people. Many of Plymstock’s past DofE students have said that this has been a life changing experience for them. Personally, I hope that they will continue their growth in the increasingly challenging Silver award this academic year.
Well done DofE students – you are fantastic and I am very proud of every one of you! And thank you to the staff who have lent their support this year!
