Plymstock School would like to congratulate all of our students who have today received their A level
and Level 3 vocational results, after two long years of study. We would like to extend our
congratulations beyond our own school; we acknowledge the effort, hard work and resilience shown
by all students across our Trust (WeST) – along with all the schools and colleges within Plymouth –
and offer congratulations on what should be a proud day for students and their families.
As per last year’s cohort, the results that the students have achieved this year are even more
commendable when we reflect that this cohort of individuals have suffered significant educational
disruption during the past three years. The students should be proud of themselves due to the manner
in which they have overcome these additional challenges; they have remained focused and committed
to doing their very best; which will set them up well for their future endeavours.
Alan Yendell, Headteacher of Plymstock School, shared: ‘I am incredibly proud of every single student
who has received their exam results today. We have to remember that this year’s cohort would have
been GCSE students back in Year 10, preparing for the onset of GCSEs and all that entails, including
vital exam-hall experience. However, this of course never happened due to the pandemic – instead,
they experienced three years of unprecedented disruption to their lives. However, what is special about
these individual students is that, seemingly unperturbed, they went about doing the very best they
could and grabbed every opportunity presented to them in order to move forwards. For many of these
students it is the end of seven years at Plymstock School. I would like to thank them for everything they
have done to positively contribute to our school community and I wish every single student the very
best as they continue to pursue their personal and career aspirations.’
Results days should also provide the opportunity to pause, reflect and acknowledge the wonderful
work that schools, teachers, tutors and support staff undertake in supporting the students both in the
classroom and beyond. We would like to place on record our sincere thank you to everyone who has
worked tirelessly to help our young people, including the students’ parents and carers.
Rebecca Littler, Head of Sixth Form at Plymstock School, additionally shared: ‘The 2023 Year 13 cohort
are a fantastic group of young people who have over their time with us at Plymstock School developed
into exceptional young adults. Their successes are not only measured by exam results but who they
are and the impact they have on the world around them. Our Year 13s have shown that they are kind,
compassionate, hardworking young adults who have given back to our school and local community
through their sport, coaching, mentoring, advocacy for people’s rights, environmental matters,
tutoring and volunteering. The compassion, resilience and tenacity they have shown during their Level
3 qualifications will help them with whatever path they choose to pursue, and we are unbelievably
proud of each and every one of them. I wish them the best of luck for all their future endeavours and
look forward to hearing of their successes in years to come.’
The positive outcomes that the students have secured today has allowed them to progress onto the
next stage of their future plans, with many securing their first choice offers to university, including
Oxford, Cardiff, Birmingham, Bath, Exeter, Warwick, Bristol UWE, Plymouth and Marjons. Others will
be taking up traineeships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities in various fields, including
accounting & finance, business, education, healthcare and IT.
